Three Weeks b4 trip

Marsha and I got our immunizations yesterday. While nothing is required we got boosters for Hepatitis A/B and Typhoid. Also got script for Cipro (in case of tourista revenge).

Our shopping for the trip is divided into two lists: Mel's toys and stuff for us.
Mel's toys:
Nikon D80 camera - high resolution digital SLR camera with 10 gig of memory chips
Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop - with a high end graphics card and 2 gig. To handle toy #1

Stuff for us:
Hard salamis - our emergency food on all international trips
Splendor - sugar substitute
pancake mix
hot cereals - gruel is not our choice for breakfast
allergy meds and vitamins
duffel bags
hand cleaners - for use on the road

Marsha choose a textbook for her class. An older version of a textbook used in the States. Hopefully the relatively low cost will keep them from photocopying it. We will not encourage copyright violations.

We also checked with our Weight Watchers groups for ideas on not gaining weight in China. My favorite answer is, "Eat like a gourmet not like a glutton." Try the great variety of new tastes, but make believe the portions are from an expensive restaurant (small).

Background

Marsha and I will be heading to Guangzhou China on March 21. Guangzhou was previously known by the Western world as Canton. It is located around two hours north of Hong Kong and Macau. Its population is between 8 and 11 million people, depending which source you are looking at.

We will be working at a university 1n Guangzhou to get students ready to attend graduate school in the United States next Fall. Marsha will be introducing the students to two MBA classes. I will be helping the students improve their conversational English.

We will be teaching for two months and then will tour for 18 days.

This blog will be our way to keep our friends, family and colleagues enformed about our adventure.

In four weeks we leave for China. This week we will finalize our lesson plans and book list. And we will try to decide which personal items we want to bring from the States.
